- Ainvar: Main character, ad Druid who originally lived in Gaul, but when Caesar bloodied the land and his people, he and about 20 others were forced to flee to "Hibernia" and learn to make their lives there.
- Flachu: Chief of the tribe of the Slea Leathan, on the Plain of Broad Spears.
- Labraid: Son of Onuava and the great warrior Vercingetorix, best friend to Ainvar in his youth. Labraid is a braggart and self-centered.
