I found this book, and the movies, which I loved, to be very profound. More important to me than the writing style, was the whole set of conflicts that the book brings up. Science v. religion and racism are the obvious two themes. Just outstanding.

    I agree that this book is far more than the movie versions. I found it remarkable when I first read it as a teenager, and I still find it both entertaining and thought provoking.
