I Am America (And So Can You!)

by Stephen Colbert

What The Daily Show is to evening news, The Colbert Report is to personality-driven pundit shows. Colbert brings his sarcastic charm to a half-hour report, tackling the important issues of the day and telling his guests why their opinions are just plain wrong. Stephen stands for truthiness and his American right to copyright that word and claim ownership of it.

In honor of all the serious authors who make it on these ever increasingly popular parody news shows

The Daily Show is a Peabody and Emmy Award-winning half-hour American comical news television program produced by and run on the Comedy Central cable television network. It has been touted the sharpest political commentary shows on American television.

The Colbert Report is an American satirical television program on Comedy Central that stars comedian Stephen Colbert. It is a spinoff and counterpart of The Daily Show. The Report critiques politics and the media, but focuses on the commentary of Colbert's anchorman character, a right-wing "well-intentioned, poorly informed, high-status idiot" who is inspired by cable news personalities, particularly Bill O'Reilly.

50 Book Challenge! 2925 books / 2895 members / 16492 posts When asked about the new Amazon Kindle product, Steve Jobs CEO of Apple computer had this to say:

“It doesn’t matter how good or bad the product is, the fact is that people don’t read anymore,” he said. “Forty percent of the people in the U.S. read one book or less last year. The whole conception is flawed at the top because people don’t read anymore.”

Welcome to the the 50 Book Challenge, where we fly in the face of Steve Jobs.

Basically .... the challenge is to read 50 books in one year. OR ... establish a goal for yourself more or less, it's up to you, just because we say 50 books doesn't mean that has to be your goal too.

Start a thread, WITH YOUR NAME IN THE SUBJECT OF YOUR ORIGINAL POST, and log your books. It is a very good idea to bookmark (when in your post, add it to your internet browser's favorites) your post for easy location for future updates. Things move quickly around here.

I LOVE love to read...! 200 books / 258 members / 36 posts

Pop-Culture Junkies 448 books / 109 members / 669 posts Pop-culture junkie bibliophiles of the world unite. This group is for those of us who are proud to let the fangirl/fanboy flag fly and happily admit to our pop-culture junkie status. If you own enough movies to open up your own rental store, have more books than you do shelves, have ventured into a comic store more than once in your life, find yourself quoting a book, movie, or television show at least once daily, and thank the tv gods that DVR/Tivo was ever invented...then this is the group for you. We'll discuss the latest in pop culture media and have a good time. The group promises to be a chock full of hoot and a lil bit of nany. Possibly even legend...wait for it...ary.
