I absolutely agree with Karen. I read Audacity of Hope first and I'm reading Dreams from my father now. Dreams from my father was written before he had political aspirations and reads almost like a novel. He talks about things from his youth that most politicians would never talk about when running for office. He's no Polyanna. He is an interesting combination. Because he had such an eclectic upbringing; he has an immigrants love of America, tempered by his experience doing community work in Chicago. He has seen poverty within his own family, both in Indonesia and in Africa, while himself getting an Ivy league education. His mother's (white) family were firmly working class. He's for real.

I thought Audacity of Hope was well written. While reading it, I often thought, "I think one of the reasons Obama wrote this book was because he wanted to get his political ideas known." From reading this book and his first book, Dreams from My Father, I feel that Barack Obama is a person with integrity who looks at things realistically but is hopeful for our country's future and is willing to do what is necessary to improve it. Furthermore, he seems to have a breadth of historical knowledge that he is able to integrate in his ideas. He is very articulate.
