This is one of the most fascinating books I've read in some time. Fouts does an outstanding job of taking us into the world of Washoe and her family. This book will awaken the little activist within you.

I actually was lucky enough to follow my dreams to work with chimpanzees and spent five years serving Washoe and working for Roger Fouts at the Chimpanzee and Human Communication Institute. This book was published right before I started and was the best introduction into the world working with animals. It is a must read for anyone that loves animals!
