We used this book to talk about trying our hardest and being happy with ourselves.

This is a beautiful story about a little boy who learns that his drawings don't have to be "perfect". We learned that our drawings, writings, work can be their best when they are "ish", too.

    Ish
Written and Illustrated by: Peter H. Reynolds
    Candlewick Press, 2004
An Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Platinum Award Winner and a Book Sense 76 Selection
Ish is appropriate for all ages

Ish is very similar to its predecessor, The Dot. This book is also inspiring to me. Reynolds’ books have a recurring theme of being yourself with confidence. Both books encourage readers to be creative even if they feel like they aren’t “good at it” or are frustrated with the way their work turns out. Reynolds’ wants his readers to “make a mark” in this world. Love it!
    Classroom Uses:
    - The Dot and Ish are both great books to use as an introduction for students before beginning to integrate art into the curriculum.

If you have young kids, know young kids, or you are a young kid than this book is for you. The story is about a young boy who thinks his art work is so good , until his older brother comes along that is. She says his work isnt any good and cannot figure out what it's supposed to be. His younger sister tells him not to worry that his drawings look flowerish or flower potish, which is how the title comes about. Soon the boy enjoys his drawing again.
