This is the story of Rob’s journey into the dark places of alcohol abuse, the time he spent in prison as a result, and his subsequent redemption. In the prologue, he describes the journey this way: ‘My lifelong dream has always been to pursue a lifestyle of truth, simplicity and love. The road to that goal hasn’t been easy, and I realize that I paved it all myself. I had to lose everything to gain a freedom I never dreamed possible. It was worth it, every step of the way.’
The book begins in Arizona with his sentencing to a prison term, which he sees at the time as a welcome opportunity to turn his life around. He makes a vow to the judge, and to himself, to make this a turning point in his life. Thus begins the long journey of healing, one that takes him back into his past to understand the root causes of his out-of-control behavior as a young man. It’s a long painful journey, but it leads to a greater insight into his life and motivations. In the process, he finds new purpose and resolve that launches a more spiritual, meaningful life.
