When this book first came out, I was disgusted by Amy Chua's child-rearing ways. Being an Asian-American myself, I have succeeded without having to endure the classic "Chinese mother" tortures, so I felt like Chua's assertions that Chinese kids can only survive by "Chinese" ways offensive and racist. However, after reading the book, I realized that much of the backlash that it induced was undeserved. Chua writes fluidly and truthfully - everything she does come from the heart, and I now understand her ways and reasons well. She wants only the best for her children, and I applaud her. An amazing book.
