Liked It“This is a very well written biography. I haven't read very many in my short existance, but it's nothing like I expected a biography. Didn’t Like It“To criticize this book would sound mean. So I will just say that it is not what I expected. I'm not referring to content, I am referring to tone. Not to my taste. I did, however, finish it out of a sort of fascination.” see full review » see other reviews » |
“This is a very well written biography. I haven't read very many in my short existance, but it's nothing like I expected a biography. I thought a biography was like, "I did this, then I did that, blah blah blah..." and that wouldn't interest me at all. But the people included here are just amazing and you can really relate to them. Plus, you get some insight on the making of RENT and the amazing Anthony Rapp.”

I loved reading his experiences and learning more about him and learning about his relationship with Johnathan Larson (who's a genius who died before his time)”

I liked in particular how he descibed his relationship with Jonathan and how he remembered the last thing he told Anthony before the awful news that he died. The way Rent became a part of his life and how he incorporated it into his own personal life was amazing. Rent is one of my favorite musicals making this book one of my favorites.”

It was an emotional story that I felt brought me closer to the true meaning of Rent and its original cast members. The death of Jonathan Larson was extremely sad and once again, I realized the power and emotion that this show really has. I feel blessed now after reading this story that I was able to see Anthony and Adam in their return to Broadway in the summer of '07. I realize now the passion they have for this show and all the touching memories. Anyone able to experience this show will find themselves somewhat changed. His recount of Rent and the rest of his life is fantastic. This book will remain a classic for me.”

If you don't know who Anthony Rapp is, he is the originator (is that even a word?) of the role Mark in the rock opera Rent, as well as the star of Adventures in Babysitting, David Searching and supporting roles in Road trip, Dazed And Confused, and Twister. Anyways, this is such a good read. His writing is so inventive and you feel like you are right their with him as he cronicles his life from the time when he first auditioned for Rent back in the early 90's through the present, while dealing with his mother having cancer, his sexuality, and the sudden death of one of his best friends. Another tearjerker. Also contains some mature content.”
