Incredible! An allegory of the spirituality of humanity in the history of an alley and the generations of families that have lived there. this is all I have read of Mafouz, but it is quite clear to me after just one book that this prolific writer deserved the Nobel prize. he understands how the socila order of humanity works, how tribes are formed...and he can tell it poetically! Beautiful!

A great allegory about religions and their prophets. It really made me think about the nature of belief and the role of religion. It was also very interesting how some of the prophets' stories were changed or distorted.
