I found this book a cliche on america of the 1950s. Its was actually depressing how emotionless the events were described as happening. The first half of the book was interesting but the second half was all about "telling people". One point only overall...isn't a secret supposed to stay a secret? Once you start telling people it becomes a news story. I did not read this book on my amazon kindle, I read it on my iPhone.

This memoir on the experiences of Mimi Alford with President Kennedy is told with tremendous grace and insights, without excuse or bitterness. It captured the naivety of the times when young women were often sheltered and unsuspecting. The book is both a snippet of history, a portrait of an era, and the experiences of a young woman described with the wisdom of hindsight.

I listened to the audio version read by Susan Deneker. I feel this book was very well written. It goes into depth about about her feelings and details about the sexual relationship she had with the late President JFK. It never once sounds contrite, exotic, or like a gossip magazine story, which many of these kind of stories do. It is just down-to-earth believable. I was glad to hear she never experienced any type of harrassement from the government or the Kennedy family. I, personally, have to believe that Jackie knew what her husband was doing and knew who he was doing it with. The only thing that baffles me is that Mimi did not get pregnant, She was a sheltered 19-year old virgin in the 60's when this affair started. She had no idea about contraception and she states JFK did not use condoms. But, yet, she never got pregnant. And, the problem was not her as she did have two children from her first marriage. And, we all know now that JFK was on alot of meds due to his Addison's disease which definitely could have interferred with his ability to father children. So, how come Jackie had children? Aw, well, never mind. She states in her story that she was not part of history, but still for historical reasons it was very interesting to hear this story from her view. She gives a much different view of JFK than other stories do.

Book was okay. Listening to it, I had to remind myself that the 1960s was a different time and Mimi was from a family that was wealthy and place in society was important, girls were educated on all social graces, were to marry well, and raise a family. I also had to remember that Mimi was young and naive when she met Kennedy. I was still disappointed though that Mimi thought her relationship with Kennedy was okay. Also, I was disappointed in Kennedy--he had a beautiful family and yet he had so many affairs. I felt he took advantage of his position and power to have affairs with Mimi and the other women in the White House. and everyone acted like that was okay and helped him.

If you can borrow (on-line library book) versus buy , I would recommend this quick read. Lots of lurid details about yet another Kennedy conquest.

A very honest memoir of being young and living with a secret. Living in the past, with mistakes you make, can destroy a person. This book is about putting the past behind you and getting on with life, with no regrets.

This is yet another JFK mistress memoir. It is well-written. The author tells how keeping the secret destroyed her marriage and damaged her over the years. She eventually told a few family and friends, and went through therapy and lots of positive life changes. Some of her musings sound a bit cliched, but there are lots of people who've worked through lots of life issues, and we often sound the same.

I read this book in one night (it was a long, sleepless night), but as usual I liked: that prep schools were involved, it was about the Kennedys, it included the backstory and so much great stuff about the years/decades that followed the end of the affair. I applaud the writer for telling her story as she wanted it to be told, and honestly examining her motives for wanting to be one of JFK's girls and then later honestly examining her marriage and her life. A nicely written, easy read that gives you a quick glimpse into the glamour of the Camelot White House era.
