Tess Monaghan tells the story of a mystery she finds while pregnant and on bed rest. She is bored, restless, and at the mercy of her hormones when she begins to watch a young woman who walks her dog every day at the same time. One day Tess sees the dog running loose and the woman is not there. She decides to investigate and doesn't believe the husband's story that his wife is out of town. She is determined to solve the mystery. She interviews people in her home, relies on her computer and friends to help her, and solves the mystery before her baby is born, but how she finds the truth makes her question her job and how she can work and raise a child.
