“I am going nuts with these angel books, but Angelfire is definitely one of my favorites of all time. This thing is packed with mystery, romance, and action pack thrills that I could read this over and over again and never grow bored. It’s an added bonus that the author, Courtney, is a fan of Sailor Moon, which is one of my favorite shows. I couldn’t get enough of Serena and Tuxedo Mask.
Ellie is your average teenage girl. She has a best friend, a group of friends, and she gets bored in school. There are things that make Ellie different though. Ellie’s parents, mostly her dad, are arguing a lot lately. Her nightmares are becoming more vivid, and feel almost real. Ellie has grown used to the nightmares, and didn’t think anything about them.
That is until Will talks to her. He wants her to remember who she is. Ellie thinks he’s just some lunatic. But when a reaper attacks her, and Will is there to protect her, he awakens her. She is known as the Preliator, a warrior that destroys reapers and sends them back to hell. She has been on Earth for over thousand years, being reborn into a human body over and over again.
Will, is her Guardian, and has protected over the years. He was always there to awaken her when she was reborn. This time, however, took her four decades to be reborn. Ellie has become more human, but her power is slowly awakening and it’s stronger than the reapers that attack her.
There is such a lovely romance brewing between Ellie and Will. It’s sad what they discover in the end. Which by the way, the ending, oh my god, was that just breath-taking and wonderful. There was this character named Cadan, which I quite liked.
I love Angelfire, and got lucky to read an ARC of Wings of the Wicked, thanks to Stacey @ Page Turners.
My review won’t be up until late January or early February, but I can say this:
The story gets even better, and there were moments where I cried.”

“This book was awesome! I'm always hesitant towards books that everyone seem to like and strongly recommend and I was glad to find out that all those people were right!
I love the aspect of reincarnation. In this book Ellie keeps coming back in order to fight demons. Not exactly what I would expect from a typical reincarnation book. I'm more of coming-back-to-life-for-love type of girl. But there is plenty of love in the air in this book.
Will is the one who brings her memories back or tries to couple of times and the attraction between them is clear but of course it wouldn't be that easy for them to get together and here comes the big and unexpected twist which I totally didn't see coming. Add more drama and tension to the love story and it's insta-love for me! What can I say? I love my characters to go through hell first in order to be together which I guess won't be far from the truth... in the next books.
Ellie as a person who has lived many lives, is filled with memories which she gradually gets back. Some flashbacks were terrible like the way she died, but others were little snippets of her and Will which makes you see the bond they share with each other and how strong it is. I hope though flashbacks continue on the next book.
Overall I loved it! Anglefire is a fast paced and action driven novel with a forbidden love that'll make you want to come back for more.”
“It was so full of action and I love it! The reapers are really scary to imagine and when they get deformed by Ellie's power...it was so gross to think of what they looked like with all the blood, the sinewy insides and the skull showing and everything! Ha-ha! But I like it! and they deserved it! Ragnuk is the most annoying - good thing he's dead! Ivar is just plain creepy and Geir is a monster! The Enshi was actually terrifying, what? how many thousand years old? 3? That is just old. And then there's Will, the angelic vir :) I love how he's so devoted and faithful to Ellie (The Preliator). He is THE MOST AMAZING GUARDIAN EVER! He never breaks his promise! (and he's too serious it's funny^_^) I love everything about him, so sweet and protective and handsome! I can't even imagine what he really looks like...it seems like what I come up in my mind is just...not enough. He's too good to be true [3 actually, here are some of his memorable, heart-stopping, swoon-worthy quotes from the book!
"Ellie, you need to understand," he said softly. "I exist only to serve you and fight by your side. Whether that fighting is to preserve your life or to make sure you smile, that is what I am built to do. You're all I have, and I will watch over you forever." p. 201
"But you have me," he said. "I've done everything I could over the last few centuries to keep you safe. I know I've failed you before, and I hate what you must go through, but how I feel about it doesn't matter. Emotion is not relevant. My reason for existing is to protect you." p. 230
"Please understand that no matter what I am or what has happened in the past, I am yours. I am devoted to you above all else, including my own life." p. 240
"Love is a beautiful but terrible thing," he said. "You have to be careful with it. It can destroy you. That is why the angels aren't supposed to feel emotion. They must be infallible and without doubt." p. 308
"...My destiny was to become your Guardian, in a long line of Guardians: I was chosen. He gave me my sword and the power to awaken you, so you could become the Preliator in each reincarnation. He gave me purpose, some sort of resolution in my immortality, a focus. You gave me purpose." p. 324
"...I don't want to die and come back and not remember your face, Will. I don't want to spend another lifetime not knowing who you are!" - Ellie (pp. 350-351)
Ellie: "And you're going to eat more?"
Will: "Yeah. I told you I didn't want you seeing how much I really have to eat. It would give you nightmares, I assure you." p. 377
"That is not true," he said. "I don't need to go there to find peace. I've found peace with you, Ellie, in between the fighting and the years you aren't with me. You've brought me peace." p. 439
"I hate...," he started, his shaking voice trailing off. "I hate when you die. It destroys me. I know I have no right to be so upset, because I'm not the one losing my life, but it breaks me apart inside. I'm not very good with words, and I don't know how to explain to you how I feel. I get lonely when you aren't with me. I miss you. And every time you die, a little piece of me dies with you." p.439
"I'll always come back to you." - Ellie (p. 441)
"I love you, Ellie," he breathed, his words lighting my skin on fire, and something inside me disintegrated, leaving a rushing feeling behind. "God, I've always loved you." p. 441
"All this time," he breathed. "I've always loved you and never said a thing." p. 441
"Don't forget that I'll always love you," he whispered against my lips, rubbing the tip of his nose to mine. "Don't forget." p. 442
"Other Guardians have died fulfilling their duty to you long before I came along," he said, touching my cheek, my hair. "I will die for you one day." p.443
"You can't love me," he said, his voice pained. "And I can't love you either. You're not mine to love." p. 443
See? Ten bucks says you died already! ha-ha! :D”

Angelfire is a book I thoroughly enjoyed reading! From the first until the last page it was among those books that constantly surprised me in a good way and a book I couldn't stop reading till I reached the very last page.
I have said quite a number of times that I have a soft spot for angel stories.I've read books about angels that weren't something amazing and just because the story was about angels I just loved them.Angelfire isn't among those books.Moulton would succeed in writing an interesting story regardless the main theme.
The writing style is fresh and away from the typical cliches you usually find in books with such a popular theme
For one,the romance was there from day one of the story but it bloomed slowly, something that gains much points of appreciation in my mind.Despite the fact that Ellie reincarnates every few years and knows Will for many centuries the romance is as fresh as the turns in their relationship and the changes in Ellie's personality.Moulton didn't use reincarnation as an easy way to make her heroes fall in love easily.Quite the opposite... As a result, the romance is more believable and one of my favorite aspects in this book.
Ellie is a well built character and the reader gets to know more about her and about the whole world building along with her. Will is yet another strong but with his own problems male protagonist, yet in many ways he manages to stand out and make you remember him.
]But the thing I enjoyed the most was Moulton's ability to write the action scenes.Angelfire is full of action scenes almost from the very beggining of the book and Moulton's ability to describe those is brilliant. The battles are almost coming alive thus making this book appealing to any urban fantasy lover.I just loved those scenes!
I also loved the ending scene.Usually I just don't remember anything about the exact ending scene of a book except if it's a cliffhanger. But Angelfire ended in a really memorable way at least for me.It was almost like a movie scene.I got a Matrix feeling with the way Ellie gave the last battle of this book and I couldn't help myself but smirk with the lines.
All in all,Angelfire is an amazing debut novel and I can't wait to see how the story progresses and what more can Moulton do in the sequel! ”

Anglefire was meh, although it certainly wasn't the worst book I've ever read, it just isn't that shelf worthy. The plot was okay, but I felt that they plunged into the whole "your-a-demon-hunter-go-relearn-your-talent' thing really fast. also and this may be stupid of me but I didn't like how Ellie was rich and popular, and she seemed a little too whiny. I did like the harshness her dad brought to the story though, it makes her perfect life seem just a little more normal.
Will was cute, and I liked how they eventually got together, although it was unrealistic how they never hooked up in previous lives, but they were good for each other so I approve.
and I guess I just don't really like the whole demon hunting thing, I found myself skipping the battle parts, and just going on to whats next, it didn't hold my interest that long.
Recommendation- Go for it if its your type of thing, its a book I would borrow, not buy though, and not one I will particularly keep my eye out for the sequel, although I may read it, if your bored or its been lying on your shelf for a while by all means go ahead, just don't have ultra high expectations.
“Angelfire was high up on my TBR list. 150 pages through this book, I didn't feel like reading any further. I thought it was rather unimpressive. The fighting scenes were annoying. I didn't like the characters. ”Vedikaa wrote this review Tuesday, November 13, 2012. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
