Seventeen-year-old Amy joins her parents as frozen cargo aboard the vast spaceship Godspeed and expects to awaken on a new planet, three hundred years in the future. Never could she have known that her frozen slumber would come to an end fifty years too soon and that she would be thrust into the brave new world of a spaceship that lives by its own rules.

Amy quickly realizes that her awakening was no mere computer malfunction. Someone - one of the few thousand inhabitants of the spaceship - tried to kill her. And if Amy doesn't do something soon, her parents will be next.

Now, Amy must race to unlock Godspeed's hidden secrets. But out of her list of murder suspects, there's only one who matters: Elder, the future leader of the ship and the love she could never have seen coming.

  • I realize the simple truth is that power isn’t control at all—power is strength, and giving that strength to others. A leader isn’t someone who forces others to make him stronger; a leader is someone willing to give his strength to others so that they may have the strength to stand on their own.

Setting & Locations edit see section history

GodspeedProject Ark ShipBefore Amy is frozen the ship is called Project Ark Ship and is funded by the FRX (Financial Resource Exchange). When it was built, it was the largest ship ever built. It was so big, it was built in space. Shuttle launches brought different components up. Its mission is to colonize a planet in the Alpha Centauri binary system. Alpha Centauri is the closet star to Earth at 4-5 lightyears. When Amy awakes she discovers the name of the ship is Godspeed. Godspeed has four levels which are named different things throughout the book. They are: Contingency, Feeder Level/Biological Research, The Shipper Level, The Keeper Level.
  • Outerspace
  • Keeper Level: Where Elder & Eldest Live. Also includes the learning center and great room.
  • Shipper Level: Where Shippers live and work. Contains the Bridge and engine.
  • Feeder Level: aka: Biological Research. Where the workers live. Contains the city, where Feeders work and live. It also includes farms, greenhouses, the hospital, and the recorder hall.

Glossary edit see section history

  • Frex: A swearword aboard the ship, "Godspeed". It seems to replace the "F Word". Derived from FRX.
  • Brilly: Seems to be used in the same context as the British slang "brilliant" can be used as good or bad description.
  • Chutz: Is loosely tied to the word "chutzpa". Chutz however is used many different ways, all of which can be defined as "Audacity". At a closer too, it can be used to describe someone being "arrogant" or even "impertinent", to someone being "daring", having "nerve" or "boldness", to an insult of being a "moron" or "idiot".
  • Wi-Com: Wireless communication link. Refers to a small device implanted into the heads of all occupants of the ship, just below the left ear, that allows them to communicate instantly.
  • Grav Tube: a tube linked with the ships gravity allows transport between levels of the ship.
