“I read this book because of student comments during a HCPL summer reading presentation. It was thoroughly enjoyable. If you liked The Hunger Games and Divergent, you will like this dystopia wherein a young woman finds herself torn between leaving all that she has loved for the one love she has just found. Good storytelling. ”

“A dystopian romance in a society where love is considered a disease, and people are cured with a brain operation. Of course, Lena does not want to be cured, and decides to run away rather than be "saved."”

“Pages(1-68) This book, Delirum by Lauren Oliver is about a world where 'love' is a disease, and at the age of 18 you need to take a cure. So far, the main character named Lena had been looking forward to taking her cure. Her best friend Hana, however is starting to give hints that she is not very interested in taking the cure. On the day her evaluation test was supposed to be held, she managed to glance at a boy and he winked at her, after this moment I believe everything had changed for Lena, she had started feeling anxious around him and self concious. Although I have not read much of this book yet, I have a prediction that Lena will start falling in love with this boy Alex, she will start doubting the cure and refuse to take it. There has been some forshadowing in which might lead up to Lena liking Alex. On page 38 it says, "His hair is golden brown, like leaves in autumn just as they're tyrning, and he has bright amber eyes." This shows that she had a moment of apprecianting his looks. This allows the reader to know that this character will have a large impact on Lena. I look forward to continuing the book.
(Pages 68-198) As this book continues, Lena goes through different experiences that forces her to doubt herself and start thinking she is more like her mother than she had realized before. Her mother had been taken over by delirea and just as the scietests from the labs had wanted to come and take her away for the third time to get her procedure done, she had commited suicide. This had a large impact on Lena and from then and on ward she swore to never end up like her mother did. As I had predicted before that a character, Alex will have a large impact on Lena, this prediction turns out to be correct. Lena starts feeling differently about Alex and starts to fall for him doing things that she would have never normally done with him. For example, she had lied to her own aunt to go out and meet Alex by the beach. She had talked to him and told him things that she had never told anyone before, she had touched him and danced with him. These were all illegal activities that she could have gotten in trouble for. When she had been with Alex in the beach she had thought,(page 161) "I'm just happy, a pure, bubbly feeling." This shows that Lena had been glad about being with Alex and hadn't yet thought of the consiquences. Lena is only one step closer to getting her cure done, I predict that right before she gets her cure done, she will meet up with Alex or Hana and they will convince her into running away to the Wilds, or convince her to not getting her cure. So far I am enjoying this book. ”

“Exquisitely written.
Lena's world is not a place I would want to live in. And yet this is a dystopian tale I won't easily forget. At first, I thought it was boring but as the story progresses, I'm glad it didn't disappoint me. I'm eager now to read the next one.”

“This book takes in the further. All people wanted was to fine love. That was what everyone was looking for. Somethings they would even fight for it or kill or it also. Later on in the book they fine the cure for love. The scientists wanted them not to feel any kind of mood which was love. There is a girl name Lena which she can't wait to turn eighteen because the government said that everyone has to go though a surgery to get cured. She thinks that if she can't love or feel any kind of moods she won't have to go though pain at all. ”

“I think I'm just dystopia-ed out. This was an interesting book, and I enjoyed the creative premise. But I saw every twist from a mile away and thought it read too much like every other YA dystopia out there. Just once it'd be nice to have the conventions turned upside down.”
