I really enjoyed the writing of this book. I have a favorite actor who would do a marvelous job in the role of the main character and once I had him firmly in place in my mind I could hear his voice narrating the book. Great book, not a spooky as I thought it would be, but quite a nail-biter...

This is one of the most depressing books I have ever read. I couldn't even finish it, so I don't really know where the paranormal came in because it was really bringing me down and I couldn't take it anymore. Life is depressing anough, thank you

Great book, not a spooky as I thought it would be, but quite a nail-biter just the same.

I read this book a few years ago and I still remember it! I thought the book was brilliant and I really got lost in the story. Its a dark, graphic novel with a good twist at the end and the book kept my interest the whole way through which is important for me as I can easily get bored with a story. The book isn't for everyone but I do highly recommend it.

this was a good book with an interesting plot line BUT the main character (who is physically deformed) became stale. You are constantly remninded that the character Nick Dismas or Dis is deformed with annoying things like 'i bent but only as far as my hump back and curved spine allowed' and 'my withered leg was compensated by my strong arms and shoulders'. OKAY James we get it. hes deformed now continue on please without haivng to constantly remind us!!
Luckly near the end of the book when everything is kicking off he gives up on reminding us of the charaters weakenses (occassionaly they are mentioned but not as often as thay were previously).
But is is a really good boook and the descriptions of the 'Others' was exceptional.

I thought it was based on the movie but to my surprise it wasn't. Very strange but awesomely good! Give it a try.

I liked it more than I was supposed to, but I've read it in a hospital and I was very bored.

A complete twist. I read the back of the cover and was semi expecting it to be like the movie "The Others". It's completely different and absolutely unbelievable at points. And to make it even better the author swears it's true :]. I found it difficult to force myself to close it every night, and actually found points of a scared suspense while reading it. Very meaningful too, love how everything ends up playing together that you can't read into before hand. Highly recommend.

I liked this one a lot. Funnily enough, I don't remember that much about it, except the way it made me feel -- pretty shuddery.

What a fantastic character Nicholas Dismas is. James Herbert got everything right for this book, a great read.
