“Troy - Shield of Thunder
By David Gemmel.
Troy - Shield of Thunder, is the second book in a series of three.
Kalliades and Banokles, two Mykene renegades, hunted for betrayal, find home in Troy. After joining the prestige ranks of mighty Hektor of Troy, Kalliades is swiftly promoted to commander for his cunning and astuteness. Banokles becomes a member of the Trojan Horse scouts, where he fights for his life when they are pursued by a large force for saving the next heir to the throne, a young twelve year old boy, of the Hittite lands. Helikaon continues to raid Mykene villages plundering everywhere in a desperate attempt to stall the Mykene attack on Troy.
The characters,
King Priam - Priam is the king of Troy, he is father to his proud son, Hektor.
Hektor - Hektor is the figure of Troy, he is a respected fighter and general, and is magnanimous towards his troops. Hektor is fierce on the battlefield, but in heart, hates all war.

Kalliades - Kalliades is a quick thinker, but also a good soldier. He joins the soldiers of Hektor, where his quick thinking gets him the rank of general.
Banokles - Banokles is a strong man, renowned for his ferocity and sheer strength. Best friend to Kalliades, he is likewise a Mykene renegade hunted for failing his first mission to seize Troy, but now, he joins the Trojan Horse of Hektor
I liked this book because it was really interesting with descriptive detail, gory fights, and vivid characters such as Odysseus. The book had lots of detail, and contained interesting facts on this old legend. I think it is really interesting and a great idea, that David Gemmell, mixes fiction with non-fiction, since he makes up his own ideas about what happened at the once golden city of Troy”
