This book was really, really bad! Very poor writing, particularly since the author is study to get both her Ph.D. and in law school. Lacking is an understandment. I want my money back. Look elsewhere for historical fiction, this is NOT, and I repeat NOT, historical fiction.
um, good eye, there. It never professes to be historical---fiction yes (that means NOT true). Don't expect more out of it than it professes to be. :) Cheers!
wow, is this book really that bad?! I really want to read a good historical romance, but some of the reviews make it out to be awful! Should I read, or not?
I enjoyed the book, maybe because I never expected it to be anything other than a light, fun read. If start reading it on the premise that it is suppose to be a great work of historical fiction then you will very likely be quite disappointed with it.
I have not yet read it, planning on it. I checked it out from my local library, but never quite read it, too busy at the present. But I say, don't let others opinions sway your desire to read a book. Everyone's tastes differ, and I have found many a book I've LOVED and others greatly disliked. So, read on, then form your own opinion and post. You've got nothing to lose really, but possibly a disappointment in finding either others opinions were true to your own. Take care, ~K
it's just a fun entertaining read. There's some tawdry romance and it's just light chick lit. Depends on what you are expecting. The book plainly states at the end that it's not historically correct or true, but does follow the time and certain characters.
I am only one the first 100 pages or so and love it. It is not a serious read. It is fun and entertaining. I think some of these that are giving negative reviews just need to lighten up and learn to enjoy things.
Cute and fun, even a little silly but sometimes that's just what you need. I'll read the next one for sure.
I enjoyed the book very much, and have read the others in the series. It is not a serious book, but it is still very good. Sometimes books should be just fun and enjoyable. I hope some of you learn to lighten up and enjoy life.
This series is not mainstream historical romance, more like light historical. It's meant to be more funny than melodramatic. If you're looking for something deep, this is not it. However, I love the whole series. All of the books are funny and the characters are great! I must say, however, that I consider Richard and Amy to be by far the most boring and annoying hero and heroine. The later books are much better.
I agree, I had a hard time getting through this book, but I adored all the books that followed.
