I love this book it shows a contrast about the past and the present. The movie was okay but it left out many of the funny and important parts. I wish they could make a 7 hour long movie, because that will be the...” see full review » see other reviews » |
“My favorite play!! I actually did Karl Lindner's attempt to buy the Youngers off as a monologue in drama class. My nerves were so shot that they actually mirrored what Mr. Lindner must've been going through!”

This book is about a family who lives in a small apartment in Chicago. Mama had a husband who died and his insurance money came and it was $10,000. All the family wanted the money for something. Walter wanted it for a liqiuor store, Beneatha wanted it for school, and mama took some of the money and bought a house for it. Now the whole family is arguing over the money. If you think this is drama you should read the rest of the book. ”

When I read this book, it kept me interested. The family in A Raisin in the Sun was a very unique family. Each member of the family had its own personality. When Mr. Lackey told me the title of the book I didn't think it would be good at all. I was expecting the worse. I was surprised when I found out that the book was actually a great book! This book is definitely a favorite of mine. ”

The family is like a plant, sometimes it grows and sometimes it starts to die. When it starts to die the family is having conflicts. The family members have different dreams. The family is also getting a check for ten thousand dollars from Mr. Younger's life insurance. I give this book a perfect 5 out of 5.”

It is the life insurance check of $10,000, made payable to Lena (Mama) Younger, the matriarch of the family, because of the death of her husband. The entire family lives within the walls of a tiny apartment and the play takes place entirely in its worn out, lived-in living room. Travis, the young son of Ruth and Walter Lee, sleeps on the couch in the living room and is constantly awoken by noise from the adults. Walter Lee and Beneatha are Lena's children. Walter Lee is married to Ruth, and works as a chauffeur, while Beneatha, much younger and energetic, plans to study to become a doctor. Each member of the family wants to do something different with the money, and therefore, waits anxiously for his/her new life to start”
