  • Drizzt Do'Urden: the title character of the series. Drizzt the goodly drow ranger features in the short stories "Dark Mirror," "The Dowery" <sic>, "Comrades at Odds," and "Bones and Stones."
  • Artemis Entreri: Drizzt's primary rival throughout much of the series. Entreri is a human assassin and mercenary from the desert city of Calimport. He features in "The Third Level," "That Curious Sword," and "Wickless in the Nether." Another short story, "Empty Joys," was omitted from this anthology.
  • Catti-Brie: one of the human Companions of the Hall. She is the sometimes archer of the group and has taken up spell casting as of The Orc King. She is also Bruenor's adopted daughter and Drizzt's love interest. She features in "The Dowery" <sic> and "Iruladoon."
  • Bruenor Battlehammer: a sturdy old dwarf king and Companion of the Hall. He has fought many wars, reclaimed his lost kingdom, and befriended a lone drow. Bruenor features in "The First Notch."
  • Wulfgar: another human Companion. Wulfgar is a barbarian warrior originally from Icewind Dale. He is Bruenor's adopted son and was once Drizzt's student. He features in "To Legend He Goes."
  • Regis: the halfling Companion. Regis is a thief originally from Calimport. He survives by being charming, endearing, and opportunistic. He appears in "Iruladoon."
  • Jarlaxle Baenre: the cunning and flamboyant captain of the drow mercenary company, Bregan D'aerthe. His adventures with Artemis Entreri show off his joie de vivre to full effect even in the most dangerous situations. He appears in "That Curious Sword" and "Wickless in the Nether." Another short story, "Empty Joys," was omitted from this anthology.
  • Guenhwyvar: Drizzt's oldest and most faithful companion. Guenhwyvar is a panther from the Astral Plane, who is summoned to the material plane through a stone statuette. Guen has her own story in this anthology entitled "Guenhwyvar."
  • Tos'un Armgo: a drow noble of dubious motives who found himself stranded on the surface after the drow raid on Mithral Hall. Tos'un features in "Comrades at Odds."
  • Thibbledorf Pwent: a battlerager dwarf. Pwent is Bruenor's most devoted subject. He appears in "Bones and Stones."
  • Urshula: the black dracolich of the Sellswords Saga. Urshula is the focus of the anthology's only novella: "If Ever They Happen Upon My Lair."
