Yes | No“I bought this book because it was written by Nancy Collins-her Sonja Blue vampire novels are fantastic. Sadly I can't say the same thing about Right Hand Magic, which I suppose is Collins' attempt to break into the lucrative paranormal romance subgenre. (The novel is classified as Fantasy by the publisher BTW.) This novel is filled with some really great ideas-but the characters are very one-dimensional and the dilemmas they face equally so. So though I am fascinated with the idea of a section of New York magical creatures have immigrated to, I am not fascinated enough to consider picking up a sequel. ”

I liked the alternate version of humans/nonhumans that the author introduced. There was a lot of ground-laying information in this book. I look forward to seeing how the next book turns out!”

Collins, but had not read any of her books to my knowledge. This sounded interesting, so I thought I'd give it a shot. I admit I was very surprised how much I liked it. In the beginning, I was thinking that no way would Tate find Hexe attractive (I mean...six fingers on each hand and cat pupils...and purple hair?) However, by the end of the book I was half in love with him. The amazing thing about this book was Collins' world building. You could "see" the city that she was building, and it was a magical (hehe) place. The strange creatures she described seemed to become normal as the story progressed. You can't read this story and not be fascinated by Golgotham and its inhabitants. It's a city I will gladly visit again.
