I am reading this now, 4 chapters in. While I like the writing style the daughter in college seems so whinny that I keep wanting to ground her and tell her to grow up already, after all you are nearly 20 and in college! Sheesh, I do know that it is realistic but it is annoying. I found myself thinking "if your boyfriend is seeing someone else it could be because you are a neurotic mess! The Mother seems a bit of a witch too, grouchy and with few qualities that make me want to like her. I am really hoping that I will get to like one of these characters soon LOL At least one person needs to be likeable.. What do you think? Am I being too judgemental?
I am a little further along and am beginning to like the characters
somewhat more. I love Debbie's books, but this one is moving a little slow for me. Do you think so, too?
This is my first book by her but it is a bit slow. I am about 3/4th of the way through now and I am certain that the old boy friend is the landscaper her friend is in love with. The daughter is still putting my nerves on end.. geeeze how many adults go about with a high pitch whine... "I'm not a child!" I mean really if you have to say it then of course you are! Not to mention that once you are an adult you don't mind being thought younger anymore. And Troy of course he is a slimeball yikes! Chrissy is about stupid for being a college student. Of course the mamma is not so bright either.. she just made a comment about the similarities between her situation with her highschool love and Chrissie's love. Also she gets so angry with her mamma but dosen't she realize that one day she will be in that postion and her daughter, Chrissie will be the one kickign her out of her own home and putting her in a nursing home. You are right though, I am beginning to like Susannah better, though her best frined is a much better character, I would like to hear more about her.
Just wanted you to know that most of Debbie's other books (that I have read) move a little faster than this one. I am about half way through---you are beating me.lol And yes, I like Carolyn better, too.
The book was a quick read -- mystery with a twist, but the whinny daughter was really annoying. I can't believe the mother put up with it.
Yes, the daughter was (to quote my Mum) a right royal pain!
I finished this book this morning and I loved the twist at the end, I won't give it away if someone is reading this post and hasn't read the book. (I'm talking about when you find out about Jake and where he has been).
Now I want to reread the Blossom street books to reread about Susannah :)
