Will Ferguson, after teaching English in Japan for a couple of years, decided to hitchhike from the southernmost point of Japan to the northernmost, following the cherry blossoms.

This is a very funny book! There were plenty of laugh-out-loud moments in Ferguson’s descriptions of Japan, and of the people who picked him up along the way. The book is mixed with descriptions of the places he was (mostly off-the-beaten-path, where you won’t find many tourists), as well as the people he met and some history and mythology thrown in. Personally, I found the people the most interesting part of the book. I really, really enjoyed it.

Gambatte! Ferguson takes me back to my own 3 years in Japan and, as then, I find myself laughing out loud as he shares insights of life with the Japanese.
Great book, great people, great country! Love it!

Will Ferguson is a very funny writer and he reminded me of Bill Bryson with his sarcastic and witty remarks. I learned quite a bit about Japan, a country I know very little about. I was a bit disappointed by the ending as I felt it was anti-climatic but quite enjoyed the remainder of the book and would gladly recommend it to my friends.

I don't often read travel books, but this one is a gem. Will Ferguson is seriously funny.
