One of the books every adult should read - especially those in politics, and community service of any kind. I found this book to be an epoch to the common thought of the "progress" of man, and a ray of light to the "hope" of man.

This book has stayed with me for many, many years. It's made me think deeply about religious beliefs and dogma, social progress, scientific progress, moral and ethical growth. It seems, according to the book at least, that we are doomed to blowing ourselves up and even after that we will forget the lessons we learned and likely do it all again. This book also made me reflect on an Asimov story that I loved, Nightfall. Similar concepts with the real history being forgotten or lost in translation, but the message still lingered through a religious sect. Anyone else find the similarities?

This is one of the great classics. I know some people found it depressing and bleak, I did not. I recall that when Rachel woke and spoke all the hair on my body stood straight up!

Can someone tell me who, or what, Rachael represents in the book?

The Latin made this one of the more difficult books I've ever read, but it has become one of my all time favorites as well. I highly recommend this read...
