Cast of Characters/Important People

  • Zared Peregrine: The youngest and only female of the Peregrines. marrys the youngest and last of the Howards. Tearle in a deal made to get a rich wife for brother Severne.
  • Severne Peregrine: last or youngest brother of the Peregrines, brother to Zared whom he takes to tournament and helps him to win the bride of his desire and attentions.
  • Tearle Howard aka "Smith": the youngest of the Howards and the most reasonable as he was not raised in the hatred of the rest of the Howards. but in France at court and was well educated in all things. Falls in love with Zared the youngest of the Peregrines and has to work very hard to win her trust and affection.
  • Colbrand: a handsome but not so bright fellow who cannot see Zared is a girl even after many encounters. She has a crush on him that is soon cooled when she sees his stupidity.
  • Jaime: Colbrands paige
  • Anne Marshall: the object of affection and prize at the tournament her father is putting on for her. She embarasses Severne but he paddles her behind well and then further pays her back for her cruelness.
  • Hugh Marshall: Annes father who is not so bright but is prideful enough to be annoyed with her sharp tongue and cruel ways that he awards her to Severne after he turns her over his knee and sets her in her fathers food plate. and discusses terms of the marraige.
