This book was different for both Grisham and myself. As a long time fan, I picked thid book based soley on Grisham being the author and was delighted to see that he was able to write about other areas. but I was disappointed that it wasn't a real page turner. I found myself waiting for the book to actually start. I have to say I enjoy the suspense and drama of his other work.

Most of John Grisham's novels, with their legal twists and turns, tend to rush to their conclusion leaving you breathless. A Painted House is more like a quiet Sunday dinner on the farm... slow, measured pacing that leaves you well satisfied when it's over. Given its story of a the harvest season on a small Arkansas cotton farm, that analogy is particularly apt.

True Arkansas...what a great book. My mom was growing up the same time period this book was set in, and she says it's very realistic. Looved this one.
