“The Firm is the second book I have read by John Grisham, and definitely my favorite. The book concerns a young law student named Mitch McDeere, who finishes third in his law class at Harvard by working his way up from a tough background. Offers of employments come pouring in from firms all over the country, from the big boys in New York and Chicago in particular. But one offer from Memphis, Tennessee interests Mitch in particular, and so he goes down for an interview just for the heck of it. It turns out that the firm, Bendini, Lambert and Locke, is able to offer Mitch a higher salary and better perks than any of the big firms, and so he takes the job. Some things seem strange and different about the place than the other firms he visited, but little does he know that the firm has a dark secret, which you will have to read the book to discover. This book is one of the best I’ve ever read because it keeps you hooked and in suspense until the very last pages. The action is almost nonstop, and even though the length of the book may seem threatening, it is a book that you just can’t put down. Grisham’s descriptions of the scenes and characters in the story are meticulous but also fun to read, and he paints a vivid picture of everything you read about. If you are looking for an extremely well-written thriller story with suspense, action, and intense imagery, then The Firm, by John Grisham, is exactly the book for you.”

The characters were too stereotyped to be believable, but perhaps that's what this genre calls for. I also found the repetition of details irritating and thought that the book would have been better had some of the dialogue and descriptive passages been chopped out, but overall I enjoyed it. It was a good story to listen to while driving and I would actually give it three and a half stars if I could.”

I am still enjoying Grisham's style more than ever, and this must-read of his kept me awake at nights as the story dragged me into the conspiracy along with the 'poor' Mitch McDeere. I found that every character was part of the story and added something to it, and Grisham's ability to introduce new characters even as far as 50 pages to the end is amazing. Gripping and stressful, The Firm does build intense tension and makes you root for the lead once again. However, I didn't find the end to be as nice as it was in The Litigators for example, expected and sort of disinteresting with regards to the story, depsite the baby 'twist'. The Firm is a great book and definitely needs to be read, just with a reserve regarding the ending that let me sort of dissatisfied after such a detail oriented and complex storyline. At the end of the day: riveting.”

Still using lawyers to tell the tale, he weaves a completely different kind of story. An incredibly layered conspiracy story with twists and turns all the way through.”
