This was the first of Grafton's books I've read and I enjoyed it. The story was told at a fairly leisurely pace, but still managed to be suspenseful.

This book is one that I have been waiting 15 years to read- the book was first published back in 1993, when I first started reading the Sue Grafton series. And while I could have jumped right into the book, I have this almost unhealthy need to read books in order, which meant that I had to read "A" through "I" before I could read "J". And the sad part is that I have forgotten how good the series is, and how easy it was for me to mentally picture Kristen Davis (from Sex in the City fame) as Kinsey Milhone. (I once had a debate on who should pay Kinsey- and I am continuing to stick to my guns on Kristen Davis as Kinsey. Just like Spenser will ALWAYS be Robert Urich, Hawk will be Avery Brooks, and V.I. Warshawski will always be Kathleen Turner). One of the things that took getting use to the book, though, was how the time it was set. Just like the previous review, this one is set a few years back- ok, more like a few DECADES back- to the mid 80's. So, instead of cell phones and computers and internet, there is this need to find pay phones, to do work manually, and to search things out by hand.....

Light mystery, easy reading. I enjoy the Kinsey Millhone books. She is an interesting character and portrays women as smart, capable and able to keep up with the men in the world of law and crime.

Kinsey goes to Mexico to investigate whether Wendell Jaffe is actually dead since his wife has collected on his life insurance after he disappeared to the tune of $500,000. This is book in which Kinsey discovers she has family in Lampoc.

This was the second kinsey millhone book that I read. I think I'll have to go and check out some more audio books and listen to them.

This one was not quite as good as the previous ones, but still good. Kinsey continues to get better and better. Good read.

Everyone thought Wendell Jaffe was dead for five years, a suicide who left behind a crumbling real estate scam and financial ruin. So what was Wendell doing in a Mexican resort, just months before his “widow” receives a whopping insurance payment? Hired to track down the born-again con artist, Kinsey’s search leads to an unexpected confrontation with her own past.

It's my first time to read Sue Grafton novel I was not impress with the cases she solve but I like the way she write the story. Some chapters in the story is boring and some are great. I'm still going to collect her books and I wish I could experience more detective scenes. I think this novel is a little bit boring.
