Cast of Characters/Important People

  • First Voice: omnipotent narrator, decorative language. Function like a macro aural camera. Played famously by richard burton on BBC version.
  • Second Voice: also an omnipotent narrator, refers to things in a closer micro sense.
  • Captain Cat: Blind old sea captain that lives in the bell tower. He mourns his dead lover Rosie Probert, a prostitute which he used to frequent during his sailor days. Through many sections of the play he narrates and acts like a conduit for listeners, describing what he can she through what he can hear (like how listeners must rely on their sense of sound to create an envisaged soundscape) .
  • Myfawny Price: Female, owner of sweets shop, at the top end of town, she is proper, neat and dull. Loves Mog Edwards, but cannot be with him because they both love money too much.
  • Mog Edwards: Lives at the sea end of town, owns a shop also. Loves Myfawny Price, but cannot be with her because he too loves his shop and money to much.
