Fiona MacDonald is the Keeper of the vampires of New Orleans, charged with protecting their hidden existence from the mortal world. To do that, she needs to keep her objectivity—something she finds almost impossible whenever she’s in the presence of police detective Jagger DeFarge. Because Jagger is also one of the most powerful vampires in the city, so she makes a point of staying as far away from him as she can. But then the city falls prey to a series of connected murders, and all the signs point to a vampire as the killer. Suddenly she and Jagger have no choice but to work together to find the evil mind behind the deaths, forcing Fiona to face the fact that the heart follows its own rules, and objectivity? A thing of the past.
