Another book that I recently re-read that stands up well to a second reading. Hurston's novel, unlike many classics, is as impressive and as relevant today as it was when written.

Hurston's story of Janie, a fair-skinned black woman caught in the time period between the end of slavery...

I loved this book at the beginning and then something happened and I could hardly bring my self around to finishing it. I don't know why that was but I talked to someone with a similar opinion.

Zora Neale Hurston is a brilliant writer. This book ought to be taught in every school. The dialog is stunning - you can hear the characters talking.

Janie is a woman of independence, married three times, and still has a lot of life to live.

Through a flashback, Hurston weaves together a tale of truth, love, and discovery through the voice of Janie. The reader experiences the highs and lows of being an African-American woman in three stages of her life. The only set back, we do not get a glimpse into the fourth.

This is a great book! A classic for American literature. It discusses the life of an African-American woman growing up in the south, and all the hardships she faced with racism, life, and love.
