“This is a memior about a woman's experience in medical school and having to disect a human cadaver. I found the asides about her trips to Europe and finding different ways humans perserve and revere bodies to be fascinating and I liked reading about the history of dissection. I found myself tuning out a bit though during the especially meditative parts. I sometimes wondered if Montross was cut out for that sort of work at all, if she couldn't have done with a little more separation. I also wondered quite a lot why a psychiatrist would need to know all the myriad of structures contained in the human hand. Reading this book makes me think that we could so well by redesigning medical education and tailoring it from the beginning. ”
