  • Bonus Expeditionary Force: Popularly called the Bonus Army, it was a large group of WWI veterans and their families camped on the grounds of the White House in 1932, demanding bonuses the government had promised, but wouldn't be forthcoming until 1945. A great tragedy transpired when the government used the Army to chase the destitute veterans off the grounds.
