“Cassandra Clare has yet failed to impress me. My heart was really wrenched (and still is) by this book; it may be her best yet. The characters come right out of the pages, and as a reader you experience all of their joys and triumphs, as well as their despairs. I cannot wait until the last installment comes out! ”Mozzarella L wrote this review Thursday, December 22, 2011. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No

“INSIDE COVER: In the magical underworld of Victorian London, Tessa Grey has at last found safety with the Shadowhunters. But that safety proves fleeting when rogue forces in the Clave plot to see her protector, Charlotte, replaced as head of the institute. If Charlotte loses her position, Tessa will be out on the street and easy prey for the mysterious Magister, who want's to use Tessa's powers for his own dark ends.
With the help of the handsome, self-destructive Will and fiercely devoted Jem, Tessa discovers that the Magister's war on the Shadowhunters is deeply personal. He blames them for a long-ago tragedy that shattered his life. To unravel the secrets of the past, the trio journeys from this mist-shrouded Yorkshire to a manor house that holds untold horrors, from the slums of London to an enchanted ballroom where Tessa discovers that the truth of her parentage is more sinister than she had imagined. When they encounter a clockwork demon bearing a warning for Will, they realize that the Magister himself knows their every move and that one of their own has betrayed them.
Tessa finds her heart drawn more and more to Jem, though her longing for Will, despite his dark moods, continues to unsettle her. But something is changing in Will; the wall he has built around himself is crumbling. Could finding the Magister free Will from his secrets and give Tessa the answers about who she is and what she was born to do?
As their dangerous search for the Magister and the truth leads the friends into peril, Tessa learns that when love and lies are mixed, they can corrupt even the purest heart.”
“I'm so frustrated as much as i enjoyed reading this book. Must be because of Tessa and Jem or Will. The story was very captivating with actions, of course, love and funny moments :D Overall, i loved it! Can't wait for the third book. ”Lei wrote this review Thursday, December 22, 2011. Needless to say that I started this book Monday night and finished it Wednesday (darn having to go to work and actually have a life). I'm still confused as to what I want to say other than I sort of had predicted that Will was cursed (but not that he's not), that Cecily was his sister, that the love triangle would get more intense here, that Charlotte's position would be threatened and that we'd finally figure out why in the world she's married to Henry and if they actually have feelings for each other. Also, I was sort of hoping that they'd prove that Jessamine is a....^&!*@#^!&*(%#!@!^*&*( $T^@&*.
Things I didn't expect? To be honest, I didn't expect the marriage proposal and Tessa's acceptance. I realize that this is the Victorian era and one should not be shocked about such a thing, but I felt that it's going to complicate things so much more. And even though Tessa is sort of torn between both of them like Bella was with Jacob and Edward, somehow I cannot find myself to hate Tessa for feeling the way she does and for her actions. I'm just sort of wondering if you guys feel that she's chosen the way she has and she's staying with Jem out of pity. I realize she does love him, but her feelings are not entirely clear, since she also swoons over Will. One thing's for sure. Clockwork Princess is going to be a pretty interesting book to read.
And a bit of speculation here...but what is up with Starkweather and the way he feels/sees/behaves towards Tessa? It makes me wonder what he knows/feels/his history is with her or her past. There's definitely something there. Perhaps she's related to him and this is why he can't stand to look directly at her?
Oh and Nate? What a douche... -.- Even though we knew that from Book #1, I feel that there is a different level to his douche-ness in this one.
That's it. For the time being, I'm giving this 4,5 stars. I might change my mind once I've re-read it.
And highlights for me, for the time being:
"Sophie did this?" he said, not for the first time.
"Yes," Tessa said, "and do stop repeating it."
"I think I may be in love with you, Sophie," said Will. "Marriage could be on the cards."
"Demon pox," said Sophie. "Mr. Lightwood's got it, has had for years..."
The room exploded in a hubbub. Charlotte raced over to Sophie; Henry called after her; Will leaped from his chair and was dancing in a circle. Tessa stayed where she was, stunned, and Jem remained beside her. Meanwhile, Will appeared to be singing a song about how he had been right about demon pox all along.
'Demon pox, oh, demon pox,
Just how is it acquired?
One must go down to the bad part of town
Until one is very tired.
Demon pox, oh, demon pox
I had it all along--
No, not the pox, you foolish blocks,
I mean this very song--
For I was right, and you were wrong!"
"A demon pox on all your houses!" he announced, and yawned.”
“Clockwork Prince is amazing!! Clare leaves you breathless in this cliff-hanger - and it's going to be tough waiting for the next one to come out!
I actually like the Infernal Devices better than the Mortal Instruments (although I loved those too). I love Will, Tessa and Jem and their story.
In CP, Clare reveals more of Will's story and we find out more about who/what Tessa is. It's satisfying to get some answers to your questions, but Clare keeps you on your toes introducing new details and people that leave you with many more questions to be answered in the next one. It's brilliant and wrenching! ”
