The Bell Witch is a Southern folklore legend based on a poltergeist that haunted the Bell family of Tennessee between 1817-1821. Like any other supernatural phenomenon, there is no hard evidence other than the personal accounts of the people who claimed to have witnessed these strange occurrences. The book is presumably written by a local schoolteacher, Richard Powell, to his daughter, with a note attached saying not to read if her mother remained untroubled. The mother being Betsy Bell, the daughter of John Bell, the main subject of the poltergeists' fury.
While there were times when I shared some serious doubt as to the credibility of some of the facts, the last chapter did manage to wrap things up and serve as a source of credit to some of the events.”
