What a great classic. Loved his explorations into the extreme of debt-free self-reliant living. Beautiful text to read; some great one-liners in there. Some of it reads slow, but worth the time investment.

Didn’t Like It

The writing style is excellent, but I couldn't get into it. The book is very abstract in most parts.

I did enjoy the wildlife depictions (especially the ant wars), but overall I thought it was pretty boring.

The first few chapters are wonderful, as are the last couple, but everything in between hardly felt worth reading.

Since it is over 150 years old, it is kind of hard to understand and has a lot of big words but I like how it's worded and how different it is. Also, I'm learning those big words. It makes me feel smart.

Social commentary, nature, mindful reflection on the troubles of modern life.

I am reading this book for a class, but I am glad to finally read this great foundation of Western thought that is heavily influenced by Eastern thought. I'm finding it to be very readable.

Eh, I understand why this piece is important, but it was boring, slow, and tiring to read at times.

Love this book. I wish that I could have been his friend along with Emmerson and Allcott.
