I’ve really enjoyed the other books in this series that I’ve read so far but I’ve been putting off reading this one because I was worried I was going to find the hero unappealing because he was too much of a perv. Instead, I found him unappealing for an entirely unexpected reason. Because of the way the hero dressed (diamond studded heals? Diamond earrings, lace, etc.) and the way he spoke (calling his best friend “dear/dearest”, etc.), I just could not shake the image of a flamboyant gay man out of my head. Not that there’s anything wrong with that - it’s just not appealing to me as a straight woman. My biggest disappointment was that the relationship between the hero and heroine did a 180 so fast, I actually thought a few pages were missing. One minute she’s trying to leave and the next she’s basically begging him to bed her. It was…..awkward. I realized they were secretly smitten as the reader but I kept waiting for something to happen to turn the tables and was left feeling like some important dialogue was missing to backup their actions. I also admit I found myself more smitten with the secondary romance even though it was hardly developed. In truth, there seemed to be a lot of loose ends or potential plot points that were never fully developed. Despite my somewhat cutting review, it held my interest enough to read it all in one sitting.
