“One of the best Piercy novels I have read. She takes the huge story of the French Revolution and gives us six voices. Three men and three women. The historical facts we know well. Through Piercy's pen, we hear the voices of the French people, witnesses to torture, hunger and poverty. The French women form the Revolutionary Republican Women and they have a voice. The men speak in assemblies. The women march. One of the contributing factors in the revolution was the King Louis XVI contributed much needed money to the American pursuit of freedom. Money the French people needed for food and housing for themselves. Let Piercy take you back in history and hear the voices of the French men and women. I highly recommend this book.”
