  • William Sandine: Wolf Changeling, who is hired by The Mirror as a spy to find out what the Hand plans in order to attack Adrianglia.
  • Spider: Spy and assassin of The Hand, which serves the Dukedom of Louisiana in the Weird.
  • Kaitlin Sheerile: Head of the Sheerile family, mother to Lagar, Peva and Arig.
  • Lagar Sheerile: Eldest brother of the Sheerile family, which has been periodically at feud with the Mars.
  • Peva Sheerile: Second Sheerile brother
  • Arig Sheerile: Third Sheerile brother.
  • Virai: The head of Adrianglian Secret Service, The Mirror, but "you may call me Nancy, if you would prefer."
  • Erwin: Virai's body guard, part of The Mirror.
  • Genevieve Mar: Cerise's mother
  • Gustavus Mar: Cerise's father
  • Sophie "Lark" Mar: Cerise's sister
  • Kaldar Mar: Cerise's cousin, Richard's brother, a thief and jack of all trades; can make things happen if he bets on it.
  • Richard Mar: Cerise's cousin, Kaldar's brother.
  • Catherine: Cerise's cousin, sister of Richard, Kaldar and Erian.
  • Erian: Cerise's cousin. Was taken in by Cerise's parents when his father got murdered before his eyes.
  • Grandma Az: One of the Mars, real name Azan, powerful swamp witch, also blade flasher and trainer of Cerise.
  • Urow: Cerise Mar's cousin. Half-human, Half-thoas. The Thoas are an old race that may have once been human. Urow is five feet tall and nearly as wide (all muscle), grey skin, and his left arm is extra long with black claws.
  • Clara Mar: Urow's wife. Urow & Clara's children include 3 boys: Gaston, Ry, and Mart, and a baby girl named Sydney.
  • Petunia Mar "Aunt Pete": hunter, pie-baker, and autopsy-provider. Mother of Ignata and Mikita.
  • Mikita Mar: Aunt Pete's son
  • Ignata Mar: Aunt Pete's daughter
  • Vern: hired guide through the Mire for both William and Cerise.
  • Zeke Wallace: Owns Zeke's Leathers in Sicktree (in the Mire). He is William's contact with the Mirror.
  • Ruh: Spider's tracker. He is skeletally thin and and brick red skin. He has bird-like talons on his feet and grows a tentacle.
  • Thibauld: Spider's crew. Severely altered, ambush class.
  • Posad: Spider's crew. Bred/created to control bees, he now works as Spider's gardener of special plants.
  • Karmash: Spider's crew and second in command, more brawn than brain. Keeps losing his temper and making irrational decisions.
  • Goldmint: A plant that registers the life or death of the members of Spider's crew.
  • Veisan: Spider's best slayer. Compulsively weaves baskets and rugs as an alternative to killing the rest of the crew.
  • John: works for Spider as a scientist who "fuses" humans with magical beings and plants. He fuses Genevieve with a tree to make her more compliant in order to help Spider.
  • Lavern: Spider's dumbest hunter, turned cannibal
  • Vur: Spider's crew. A bird that has poison claws.
  • Clyde: court bailiff of the Mire's own legislative system. He has a big green swamp cat instead of a watch dog.
  • Dobe: the Mire's judge
