This is the 4th book in the series, which means I'm reviewing them a little out of order. The Buchanan sister is the heroine in this book. In one of the earlier books, it's revealed that the grandma is so mean to the heroine because she's not actually a Buchanan. Mom had an affair and the heroine was the result. So the heroine, in this book, decides to go dig up dear old dad (not literally--he's alive). Turns out Dad is a senator in the midst of a pre-campaign for president. He wasn't married when he dallied with Mom (who is dead), but was "on a break" from the woman who is his wife now. When the heroine shows up to meet Dad, his oldest son--who is adopted, as are all of Dad's other kids (Step-Mom loves adopting special needs kids)--gets very stiff-necked and angry, trying to protect his parents. His mom, more than his (their) Dad. See the complications, already? Because yeah, there are mighty attraction magnets going between the "bastard" daughter and the adopted son. And then there's the political stuff, and the press (which she hates) and step-mom (who is a lovely person) and her hurt, and the heroine's siblings and fixing the relationship with grandma, and just lots of stuff. Very soap-opera-y, but lots of fun to read, and the family relationships and the hero-heroine stuff feels very real to me. Liked this one a lot.

Great way to end the series, though I have to admit there were a few times I wanted to reach through the book and SMACK a few of the characters! I dearly love the way Susan Mallery handles family dynamics and will continue to have her as an "auto-buy."
