- Jenny Jameson: A member of the family created by the Magi. Her grandmother is sisters with Lucy Steele. Jenny found a merboy when she was 12 and has never forgotten him.
- Perrin O'doro: A krackini who was banished, he met Jenny when they were children.
- Eddie: An agent for Dirk & Steele, he is pyrokinetic.
- Rik: An agent for Dirk & Steele, he is a shape shifter who swims as a dolphin. This story gives a lot of his background.
- Les: A member of Jenny's crew for the "Calypso Star", friend for over 3 years.
- Maurice: A member of Jenny's crew for the "Calypso Star", has known Jenny for years. He is telekinetic.
- Krackeni: Another name the mermaids and mermen go by.
- Sajeev: Captain of the fishing boat. Uncanny shooting ability, seems to be able to tell when danger is near. Is a REALLY bad dancer.
- Pelena: A Krackini, she is Perrin's cousin.
- Roland: Head of the San Francisco office for Dirk & Steele.
- A'lesander: A Krackini, he was a childhood friend to Perrin and Pelena.
- M'Cal: A Krackini married to Kitala Bell. Their story is "Soul Song". He gave Perrin a card in case he needed help.
- Serena McGillis: A shape shifter, she has known Jenny from childhood. Helps he'd when needed.
