This book, and by extension the whole series, is the greatest thing ever. I relate to this on an enormous number of levels, despite not living in Toronto and not being a directionless 20-something. It's incredible and awesome and I love it.

Generally speaking, serial narrative art forms benefit from sort of overall arc to provide structure and, ultimately, a sense of completeness. And, as fun and entertaining as the Scott Pilgrim series has been, it is unquestionably strengthened by virtue of coming to an end when it does. One suspects O'Malley could have easily stretched out the story volume after volume, introducing yet more complications and expanding the rogues' gallery of evil exes. Instead, he delivers up this final volume and closes out his story, bringing the overall arc of Scott's adventures with Ramona to natural and satisfying end.

As with the preceding volumes, Scott Pilgrim's Finest Hour progresses the story, turns up the volume, and digs deeper into the inner lives' of the main characters. The artwork and the dialogue continue to deliver, as O'Malley continues to serve up a smart and witty meditation on the intricacies and complications of romance in a world in which our pasts are never wholly in the past, and in which the people we try to be now remain haunted to some degree by people we have been before - all packaged up in a romp through the tropes of video games, manga, and action movies.

The characters may often be immature and snarky, though we still can't help but to care for them, but the storytelling never is. Instead, it offers a consistent and convincing vision that stays true to itself right down to final question mark one suspects is hanging over its "happily ever after."

Scott Pilgrim is dealing with a lot. Gideon Graves, the final evil ex, wants to fight. But with Ramona gone, Scott can't seem to find interest in anything but video games and feeling sorry for himself. Will Scott put himself back together in time to face Gideon? Will Ramona return? And if she does, will she and Scott be able to pick up where they left off?

The final part of the Scot Pilgrim series: Scott Pilgrim's Finest Hour. After the HORRIBLE cliffhanger at the end of volume 5, the final book takes place a few months after Ramona's disappearance. While Scott is finally beginning to get over it (Thinking everyone with glasses is Ramona's last ex, Gideon, and attacking them), he hears of the best news in months: there is a new Chaos Theater opening up in Toronto, hosted by Gideon.

This book, while an amazing wrap up of an amazing series, was somewhat brief. The action, romance, humor, drama, and of course more video games were definitely not missed out in this book. However, while it ended in a bang, maybe it could've been bigger. With all of the problems arising in Volume 5, they were ending kind of quickly in this book. I'm not saying it was bad. It was AMAZING. It just crammed a lot into 1 book.
