“Intense, dark story of a world left iin turmoil. Whre children must repay a debt every year by participating in the Hunger Games. Considering it was a young adult book, the intensity, as well as the graphic violence, took me aback. However, the book is very well written, fast paced, and engrossing. I would caution more sensitive children before reading this series. ”D. A. Rhine wrote this review Sunday, May 1, 2011. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“I loved these books. They are fabulous. I can't believe how well put together the plot is. I love how Things in book one allude to things in last book. And it all comes together seamlessly. I love the concept of an overbearing government and a girl rising above it. The idea of the Hunger Games is appalling but makes for a great read. Many a time I was stressed out waiting to see how things would turn out. In this story, like Matched, I found it hard to chose which guy I wanted Katniss to pick. I didn't want her to play with Gale's emotions and lead anyone on, but I also thought she should take the easy route and be with Peeta. But at times you hate Peeta and sometimes you hate Gale. The third book was torture. Reading as Peeta ends up hating her. You just want everything to be ok. Ah! These books are fabulous. ”Allie W wrote this review Sunday, May 1, 2011. “After reading the first two books of Suzanne Collins renowned series, "The Hunger Games" it is hard to find words to describe it that have not already been used. Stephen King said it best I think but I will give it a go. I pride myself on being a great lover of literature and have likely read everything I could get my hands on since I was old enough to realize what words were.
I must say that these novels have renewed my hope of finding writers that are not afraid to take risks with their characters. Suzanne Collins is a virtuoso in this area, she succeed profoundly in giving everyone, not just young adult readers, a novel to be proud of, one we can all cherish and I must say that these books will join the ranks of my favorites upon the same hallowed shelves that are home to "Harry Potter", "The Lord of the Rings", "The Chronicles of Narnia", and others that I can never seem to find the ability to part with. This is not to say that she is a writer in the same vein, nor is it to say that these works are remotely anything close to what has been written by these esteemed authors.
What I am trying to say is, these novels deserve to be placed with the same league as those classics we love so. There is so much emotion and devastation, elation and conquest in these books that to speak anything even remotely shallow about them would be a horrible injustice. I can only say to Suzanne as well as her fans that I hope she writes more and I fully intend to read anything she has written before or anything she may write after these wonderful books. She is a true asset to the literary field!
“While these books are well written and are real page turners, it bothers me that books one and two both end in cliff hangers forcing you to read all three books and the ending of book three isn't worth the effort of reading all three books. I understand the author was making a point about the horrors of war but I was still hoping for a happier ending. ”Odd_Duck wrote this review Saturday, April 30, 2011. “Great, descriptive writing. Even though these are YA novels, all ages can understand the emotions of the characters.”Meridith wrote this review Tuesday, April 26, 2011. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No

“Not my favorite, but well written. The stories are all very violent. All about one girl who ends up staring this huge rebellion that causes a lot of pain and loss, but also some good moments. ”superman<3 wrote this review Tuesday, April 19, 2011.
