It's interesting that dystopias are the rage right now. I read these books with two of my closest friends and we ended up with a lot of thought-provoking discussion. We also ended up with some philosophical questions: is there ever truly a correct cause - one that maintains its morality even as it gains power? Are stories of dystopias popular now because we are looking for hope? Reflecting reality? Writing our worst fears in an effort to avoid them? Will this series offer hope or purpose to the young adults who read it?
For a lot of reasons I can't give this five stars. BUT, the story is amazing, the characters are well drawn and I couldn't put it down. The social impact (and the author's apparent disregard for that impact) concern me. Additionally, the writing isn't great.
