Author: Natasha Friend
Rating: 4/5
Summary:
I read Bounce by Natasha Friend. It’s about a girl named Evyn. She has a dad and a brother. Her mom died when she was only one. Evyn is thirteen and her brother Mackey is fifteen. Evyn calls her dad Birdie. All of the sudden, Birdie tells Evyn and Mackey that he is getting married and that they’re moving to her house with six kids. This is a lot to take in. Evyn doesn’t understand who he could be getting married when they have only dated for two months. Evyn doesn’t want to leave her school, where she fits in, and her friends. She will especially miss her best friend, Jules. They move to Boston. They live in this big house because there are six kids. There are four girls and two boys. Evyn has to start a new private school. She hates it. Evyn makes no friends and has to deal with the It Girls. But suddenly, they start talking to her because they like her soon to be brother, Ajax. They want to know whom he likes. She doesn’t find out because he won’t tell. Evyn makes up that he likes Andrea, the head of the group. She is so happy. But it’s not true. Evyn is starting to hate her life. People keep changing. Her dad has changed. He is wearing fancier clothes and acting differently. They aren’t as close anymore. Then Mackey, who is a geek, gets the lead in the school play. Then Jules starts going to parties and has a boyfriend.
Analysis/judgments of the book:
I thought this was a good book. It was short and quick. The author knows the mind of a thirteen-year-old girl. Maybe she has one. This book had suspense, relationships, and change. I recommend this book to any thirteen-year-old or older. They can relate to it. It has the insecurities of Evyn and people can relate. Natasha Friend is a good author. I gave it a four because it had the same kinds of things that the other book I read by her had. For example, if the character doesn’t know who someone is yet, she calls him or her maybe Soccer Guy. It’s weird.
Conclusion:
I recommend this book to any teenaged girl. They can relate. It is short and a quick read. It had a lot of things that I liked. I liked the theme that people change. Also how it can be hard and it takes some time to adjust to it. She is only thirteen. It was hard because she thought that he shouldn’t have gotten married so quickly. It had been two months. She didn’t get how he could have gotten over her mom so fast. Anyway, this was a great book.”
“good, relateable”
