Liked It“Eerie, and at times trying the reader's patience, but an unusual perspective. While no one could possibly sympathize with Escobar and his choices, Marquez manages to show an Escobar that wants his human side known.” see full review » see other reviews » |
Didn’t Like It“Didn't exactly not like it but found I was getting confused - who was where, who were goodies and baddies, what was it all about - don't know anything much of the SA politics so was quite lost and began to realise that I only cared about the prisoners as fictional characters but if I let myself...” see full review » see other reviews » |

It involves the real-life kidnapping of prominent journalists in Colombia during the late 1980's. It shows the day to day hardships that the kidnappings cause on the victims and their families. It also lets us see the human side of some of the criminals involved in the kidnapping.”

I thought the author was so unattached, so univolved in his story. It seemed like he was just stating facts instead of writing a story. I think this style of writing is what I loved about the book. ”
