Didn’t Like It“Oh hi Sheridan Sakura Carlotta, still glum I see? Yes, I know, Juan’s absence has left a void in me too. Why are you glaring at me like that? Oh. Not that kind of void. “Oh hi Sheridan Sakura Carlotta, still glum I see? Yes, I know, Juan’s absence has left a void in me too. Why are you glaring at me like that? Oh. Not that kind of void. Can I help it if you have a one-track mind? Anyway I have to tell you, remember how you got lost in the town of “Eww inappropriate much” and kept missing the exit? Well, can I just say I too have accidentally taken the wrong turn off Skanky Highway and have wound up in “I’m pretty sure this isn’t legal” land, where the natives do strange, strange things which are not only frowned upon by the Good Book, but I also believe happen to violate several codes (among other things).
So anyway, all this happens in Alabama. What do you mean I should have expected it then? I know they have that whole joke about cousins and stuff but I’m sure that is the stuff of cruel legend! Although this book doesn’t do anything to contradict this, can I just say. Roanna Davenport (our heroine) is an orphan, raised on her grandmother’s estate. Her grandmother breeds horses, and Roanna has a passion for them. Eeew! Sheridan Sakura Carlotta! Not the horses! Can you even do that with horses? Wait, I’d rather not know. Anyway, Roanna likes to ride horses and… That’s it! Go and sit in the corner and don’t come out until you stop talking about the horses!

Firstly, when her parents die she is sent to stay with her grandmother who will keep her because she is a Davenport. But her cousin Jessie, who is clearly the apple of everyone's eyes, is set to make her life miserable. Her only confident is Webb who is to be her grandmother's heir and gradually she starts loving him. When Webb marries Jessie, Roanna's desire turns into mere dreams.
Then again when Jessie is murdered and Webb is accused, Roanna's life changes. People start pulling away from Webb even her grandmother. So, he leaves the legacy he once believed in and goes to Arizona to start a new life with no ties to the past.
Now after 10 years, Roanna's grandmother is dying and wants her to get Webb back. When Webb sees her he is unable to believe his eyes. Gone was the Ro who lived life with spirit and fire. In its place was a girl who keeps herself and her emotions buried in herself so much so that she has stopped smiling. But the ice melts at his touch and he will do anything to bring back the Ro he knew. But someone still holds a grudge and will stop at nothing to punish him for Jessie's death, and may even go as far as to harm Roanna.”
“I love the characters! The story is unique and some parts made me misty-eyed.”

At the tender age of seven, Roanna Davenport lost her parents in a tragic car accident. From then on, she would struggle to gain the love and acceptance that she so craved from her grandmother and her other relatives. Plain and gauche, she would bear the constant comparison between her and the so-called crown princess of the Davenport empire, her cousin Jessie. As a child who couldn't seem to do anything right, she retreated to the stables where, in the company of her beloved horses, she never felt inadequate. For a decade, she endured the seemingly tolerant treatment from her grandmother and constant criticism from Jessie, with only the friendship of her distant cousin Webb, whom she has fallen in love with, to get her by. Even after Webb marries Jessie, Roanna kept her hurt inside herself, but when Jessie is found murdered and Webb was initially accused of her death, only to be let free due to lack of evidence, Roanna's world would come crumbling down when he decides to leave town. And having had enough of trying to win the love of everyone around her, she would withdraw from her family, using indifference as self-protection from further rejection.
Ten years later, at her dying grandmother's plea, Roanna tracks down Webb in Arizona. In her case, seeing him again reopens old wounds and reawakens old passion; for him, he is shocked to the core to see the transformation in her not only physically, but in her character as well. Gone is the girl who once looked up to him like he was her knight in shining armor; gone is the girl whose emotions he once read so easily. Now standing in front of him is a sophisticated woman with unsmiling eyes.
SHADES OF TWILIGHT is a saga about a family struggling to come to terms with betrayal and greed. But while the author creates a story stemming from problems involving the Davenport family, the highlight of the story is, of course, on Roanna and Webb. Roanna had me drawn from the start. Her insecurities, hunger for the love of her family, and general lack of self-worth tugged at my heart. I know that some people would probably feel that she is too needy or weak. Personally, I thought that the author has developed her character so well that I felt nothing but empathy for her, and seeing her transformation from an awkward teenager into a woman capable of handling a business empire earned my admiration. As for Webb, well he is definitely worthy of Roanna's undying love, because while everyone else treated her with mere tolerance when she was younger, Webb was there to support and encourage her. And upon his return, he wanted nothing but to bring back the spirit that he once loved about her.
With its tension-filled drama, suspense and unexpected twist, SHADES OF TWILIGHT will have you glued from the time the story unfolds. And with such poignant heroine and passionate hero, you will be hanging on to the end to see them finally find true love. ”
