One for the Money (A Stephanie Plum Novel)

by Janet Evanovich

Stephanie Plum is so smart, so honest, and so funny that her narrative charm could drive a documentary on termites. But this tough gal from New Jersey, an unemployed discount lingerie buyer, has a much more interesting story to tell: She has to say that her Miata has been repossessed and that she's so poor at the moment that she just drank her last bottle of beer for breakfast. She has to... (read more)

I'm glad I began the Stephanie Plum series! She is very entertaining! Both Carrie and my mom have been telling me for some time that I would like this series. Carrie has always told me that I remind her of Stephanie Plum. I'll give her maybe a little on that one. I look forward to getting to know Stephanie Plum some more.......and Joe and Ranger. I think I would make them Plan A and Plan B in life.......if I was Stephanie!

I see why Evanovich writes the way she does and I see the appeal of the character - but I just don't care for this series. But to give props to the author, this series is coming in handy as a model for me to use for this genre.

This is not the kind of book I usually read, but now I want to read them all and as fast as I can. Awesome book from start to finish.

I wish I had read this one first. Evanovich is hysterical, I had to laugh out loud. I love this series because it is light, funny, smart and a bit sexy. I nice break from the heavier topics I usually read.

I've read almost all the Plum books, and I found that the first five were laugh out loud funny -- so hilarious and well-written (I want to be just like Grandma Mazur when I grow up!) that I began to share snippets with my adult daughter, who then became a Plum addict herself.
BUT. . .unlike most series books, I found I can't read the series one after another after another, the way I read most series. Though the books are still funny with delightful characters (wait 'til you meet Sally!), at the end of book 11 or 12 Stephanie has not either grown as a character or gone any further in resolving her dilemma -- Morelli or Ranger. So I use the Plum books more like icing on a cake -- if I'm really down or have done a great deal of serious reading, I take a Plum or two for comic relief. Glad you enjoyed One For the Money -- you'll have fun with this series!
