• Zoey Redbird: Zoey is a 17-year-old fledgling who has an affinity for all five elements.
• James Stark: Red Vampyre, oath sworn warrior of Zoey Redbird. He cannot miss a target he aims at with his bow.
• Stevie Rae Johnson: Red Vampyre, Zoey's best friend; she has an affinity for Earth.
• Aphrodite LaFonte: Human, daughter of Tulsa's extremely rich mayor;afflicted with painful prophetic visions which have earned the title of Nix's prophetess.
• Darius: Vampyre, Oath sworn warrior of Aphrodite; elite member of the Sons of Erebus.

• Sgiach: "The Great Taker of Heads", an ancient vampyre queen; she used to train warriors on the Isle of Skye where she lives.

• Nala: Zoey's cat.
• Lenobia: House of Night Horse Mistress and the Professor of the Equestrian class.
• Linda Heffer: Zoey's mother, Sylvia's daughter.
• John Heffer: Zoey's stepfather, Linda's current husband; he hates vampyres.
