A teenage boy named Jason wakes up on a school bus not remembering anything from his past, including anything about who he is. He is sitting next to Piper McLean, a girl who appears to be his girlfriend, and a boy, Leo Valdez, who says he is Jason's best friend. The bus is taking them, along with the rest of their grade at their Wilderness School, on a field trip to the Grand Canyon. While they are there, storm spirits attack the three, Jason, Piper, and Leo. Their supervising teacher, Coach Gleeson Hedge, reveals himself to be a satyr, and helps fight the storm spirits. Jason surprises himself by using a sword disguised as a coin to fight off the spirits. During the battle Coach Hedge is captured while defending them. At the end of the battle, two pegasi land next to them carrying two people Annabeth and a boy named Butch. Annabeth was disappointed because she had a vision of Hera telling her that she would find a clue to her missing boyfriend, Percy Jackson, at the Grand Canyon. She was told to look for the "boy with the missing shoe"; Jason lost a shoe in the battle, but has no memories of his own identity, let alone Percy Jackson's whereabouts. Jason, Piper and Leo were told that they were demigods (children of a god and a mortal) and are taken back to Camp Half-Blood where they meet other demigod children like themselves. There, Leo is revealed as a son of Hephaestus, Piper as a daughter of Aphrodite, and Jason as a son of Zeus and the brother of Thalia. He remembers his sister while seeing a picture of her in Cabin One. After scarcely 24 hours of learning about their previously hidden identities, the three receive an urgent quest to rescue Hera, queen of the gods, who was captured by unnamed forces. Before the start of their journey Piper had a dream where one of Gaea's sons, Enceladus, tells Piper that she should bring Jason to him in return for her father who is being held hostage. The three friends set off on the back of a giant robotic dragon that Leo had found in the forest and repaired and had gladly named him Festus (which in Latin means "happy") on a cross-country quest to save Hera and Piper's father from Enceladus. Their enemies are under orders from Gaea to reawaken her and overthrow the Olympian gods by pulling up their original roots in Greece. On their way, Jason, Piper and Leo meet Boreas the North Wind, a trio of cyclopes, the evil Medea, King Midas, a pack of werewolves led by Lycaon, and the very unhelpful Lord of the Winds, Aeolus. In the end the heroes and their friends, the Hunters of Artemis, manage to save both Piper's father and Hera, whose godly life force was being used to raise the giant Porphyrion. They temporarily stall Gaea's plans, but they were unable to completely destroy the ancient beings, and will have to face them again. With part of his memory returned, Jason realizes that he is a hero from a Roman counterpart to Camp Half-Blood somewhere near San Francisco, CA, and that Hera has switched him with the Greek hero Percy Jackson, who is now at the Roman camp with no memory of his life at Camp Half-Blood. Jason and Percy had been sent as representatives to each other's camps, so that the camps could come together to fight the giants and defeat Gaea.

Characters edit see section history

  • Jason Grace: A half-blood who can't remember much beyond his first name. He doesn't remember having a girlfriend named Piper, but she insists that they're dating. He has closely-cropped, sandy blonde hair and blue eyes.
  • Piper Mclean: One of the main characters. As a daughter of Aphrodite, Piper is "seriously pretty." In the very beginning, Piper tries to hide her beauty and is not pleased to be a daughter of Aphrodite. While not much of a fighter, Piper has a powerful gift of charm-speak that often saves the day. She lacks the shallowness expected of other children of Aphrodite, and is one of her mother's favorites. Her dad is a famous (and gorgeous) Cherokee movie star at odds with his heritage. She thought she was dating Jason and is still seriously in love with him, though neither of them will readily admit their feelings.
  • Leo Valdez: Demigod son of Hephaetus. Leo is very much like his father; when he's nervous or bored, he starts to fiddle with gadgets. He also falls for pretty much any girl that's out of his league; again like his father. Leo is fluent in both Spanish and English. He apparently has many traits that belong to the Hermes cabin, like pointy ears and a mischievous side.
  • Percy Jackson: Percy Jackson is the Half-Blood Hero that killed Kronos, and ended the Great Titan War. He is a Son Of Poseidon, and great at fighting with his celestial bronze pen-sword. Due to unclear reasons he disappears shortly before the arrival of Jason, Leo, and Piper.
  • Annabeth Chase: Annabeth is the daughter of Athena. She has become a leader amongst the campers at Camp Half-Blood since her first quest in The Lightning Thief. Her boyfriend is Percy Jackson.
  • Thalia Grace: A Daughter of Zeus, and leader of the Hunters of Artemis. Thalia used to be a tree until the end of The Sea of Monsters. She was one of three potential candidates for the prophecy in Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
  • Drew: Drew is the leader of the Aphrodite Cabin and is very mean to Piper, as well as everyone else in the cabin. She uses charmspeaking to get people to do what she wants. She wasn't elected, but rather inherited the spot since she was the oldest. Drew has never gone on a quest, but still regards herself superior to everyone else in the Aphrodite Cabin.
  • Dylan: One of the venti (a ventus or storm spirit) that tries to kill Leo, Jason, Piper, and Coach Hedge. But first, he tries to gain impression from Piper. According to Jason, Dylan has a very bright smile.
  • Tristan McLean: Piper's father. He is also a huge movie star that tries to protect Piper from all harm.
  • Medea: The mortal princess of Colchis, and she poses as an evil saleswoman.
  • Rachel Elizabeth Dare: The new oracle of Camp Half-Blood. Speaker of the Great Prophecy.
  • Festus: Festus, which means "Happy" in Latin, is a mechanical dragon. When Leo, Piper, and Jason first arrive at camp, Festus's wiring was broken. This caused Festus to go on a rampage, and didn't stop until Leo rewired him. After he was rewired, Festus helped Leo, Jason, and Piper on their quest. Everybody loves "Happy" the Dragon!
  • Butch: Butch is the son of Iris, the goddess of the rainbow. Very tough, yet very soft and kind.
  • Hephaestus: God of Fire, Forges, Mechanics.... that kind of stuff. Lives underwater
  • Kronos: Titan god of Time. Zeus's father. Bad guy.
  • Lityerses: The son of Midas. Is good at combat. He was known as the 'Reaper of Men'.
  • Khione: The goddess of snow, and the daughter of Boreas.
  • Lycaon: The first werewolf and the King of Wolves who battles the group at the Wolf House and confronts them on Pikes Peak.
  • Lupa: The wolf who raised Romulus and Remus. She is the head of the Roman camp and trains all of the demigods to be brave fighters.
  • Mr. Aeolus: God of the wind. Makes a weather forecast every twelve minutes, because he must constantly change the winds due to demands from the Gods, depending on where and who they're happy or unhappy with. He acts pretty much insane.
  • Mellie: Mellie is the worker for Aeolus at the time that Piper, Jason, and Leo arrive. She said that she had been working for Aeolus longer than most of his employees, after working for twelve hours. She has a crush on Coach Hedge.
  • Tia Callida: Leo's old 'psycho babysitter'. She attempted to kill him when Leo was six years old.
  • Ma Gasket: Torque & Sump's mother. An evil northern cyclops.
  • Torque Gasket: Son of Ma Gasket. A cyclops. He is beat around by his mother and doesn't seem very bright.
  • Sump Gasket: Son of Ma Gasket. A cyclops. He is beat around by his mother and doesn't seem very bright.
  • Hera: The Greek goddess of marriage. She is also called the mother of the gods and she is the wife of Zeus. She never had a demigod child. But favors Jason of the past and the present.
  • King Boreas: The Greek god of the wind. The god of winter. Father of Khione, Calais, and Zethes.
  • Clovis: The Head Counselor of Hypnos cabin. (He is asleep half the time) He tries and fails to restore Jason's memory.
  • Clarisse: The Head Counselor of Ares Cabin. She is always getting into fights.
  • Zeus: Zeus is the King of the Gods. He is the god of lighting, and is one of the Big Three.
  • Zethes: Demigod son of Boreas who has a horrible fashion sense. His father granted him immortality so he could serve him. He wants his father to freeze Piper for him.
  • Calais: Also known as Cal. A demigod son of Boreas who was granted immortality so he could serve his father. He loves hockey and pizza, but can only speak words with two syllables or less. He's also very destructive.
  • Nyssa: Hephestus kid. One of Leo's half-sisters.
  • Gleeson Hedge: The protector - a satyr - of Leo, Piper, and Jason. He pretends to be the gym coach, and he likes to smash and kill things. He is very violent, and wasn't allowed into the Council of Cloven Elders because of this, even though he is very old. Coach Hedge has a short temper, a annoying habit of yelling, and a courageous attitude to vanquish every foe. He also thinks that he can take down any opponent easily.
  • Porphyrion: The giant king.
  • Piper McLean: Piper is Jason's girlfriend she is also a daughter of Aphrodite. Is she fit for that and will her charmspeak be able to help them on their journey.
  • Hermes: Messenger god. God of travel, medicine, and thiefs.
